Maybe You’re Not Behind , Maybe God Is Preparing You

Do you ever find yourself looking at other people and thinking, “I should be so much further along by now”?

Someone you know gets the job they’ve been hoping for. Someone else gets a promotion. Another friend gets married, buys a house, starts a business, or reaches a goal they’ve been working toward.

And you’re happy for them. Really, you are.

But somewhere in the back of your mind, there’s that little voice asking:

What about me?

When is it going to be my turn?

Why am I still here?

Shouldn’t I have accomplished more by now?

The truth is that comparison can sneak into our lives so quietly that we don’t even realize how much it is affecting us.

We start measuring our lives against people who are the same age as us. We look at what they have accomplished, where they live, what their careers look like, what their families look like, and what they seem to have figured out.

And suddenly, everything we have accomplished doesn't feel like enough.

We think we should be further ahead.

But who told you where you were supposed to be?

We All Have a Different Timeline

One of the hardest things to remember is that God doesn't give everyone the same timeline.

Just because someone else received their blessing before you doesn't mean yours isn't coming.

Just because someone else's life appears to be moving forward while yours feels completely stagnant doesn't mean God has forgotten about you.

And just because you're waiting doesn't mean you're failing.

Sometimes we mistake waiting for being behind.

They're not the same thing.

You may feel delayed, but what if you're actually being prepared?

There are things God may be working in you before He ever works through you.

Maybe He's developing your patience.

Maybe He's strengthening your faith.

Maybe He's teaching you how to trust Him when you can't see what comes next.

Maybe He's preparing you for something you aren't even ready to carry yet.

We tend to want the destination.

God often works in the preparation.

But Why Hasn't God Answered Yet?

That's the question we don't always want to admit we're asking.

God, I've prayed about this.

I've done what I'm supposed to do.

I've worked hard.

I've tried to be patient.

So why hasn't anything changed?

Sometimes the silence can feel like rejection.

But God's silence isn't necessarily God's absence.

Waiting doesn't mean He has forgotten you.

It doesn't mean your prayers weren't heard.

And it certainly doesn't mean your life has been put on hold while everyone else's gets to move forward.

Sometimes the season we're desperate to escape is the very season God is using to prepare us for what's next.

Stop Measuring Your Beginning Against Someone Else's Middle

Here's where comparison really gets us.

We look at someone else's life from the outside and compare it to everything we know about our own.

We see their new job.

Their house.

Their marriage.

Their business.

Their accomplishments.

Their answered prayers.

But we don't see the sleepless nights.

We don't see the failures.

We don't see the things they had to overcome.

We don't see the prayers they cried through.

We don't see the parts of their story that haven't made it to Instagram.

We're comparing our entire behind-the-scenes to someone else's highlight reel.

And that isn't a fair comparison.

Your story is still being written.

Maybe the Season You're in Has a Purpose

What if instead of constantly asking, “Why am I not there yet?”, we started asking:

“What is God trying to teach me here?”

What can I learn in this season?

Who am I becoming?

What is God preparing me for?

What if this isn't wasted time?

What if this season is building something inside of you that you couldn't have developed anywhere else?

Sometimes we become so focused on getting out of the season we're in that we miss what God is doing while we're there.

You may not understand it.

You may not like it.

You may desperately want it to change.

But that doesn't mean it doesn't have purpose.

Your Worth Isn't Measured by Your Progress

You are not more valuable because you have a six-figure career.

You aren't more worthy because you own a house.

You aren't more successful because you started a business.

You aren't behind because someone younger than you accomplished something before you did.

And you don't become less valuable because you're still waiting for something you've prayed for.

Your worth was never determined by your timeline.

It was never determined by your accomplishments.

It was never determined by how quickly your life came together.

Your worth was already established by God.

And maybe that's something we need to remember when comparison starts whispering that we're not enough.

Sometimes All God Is Waiting for Is You

Maybe you're waiting for God to change your circumstances.

And maybe, in the middle of that waiting, God is waiting for something too.

Not perfection.

Not success.

Not for you to have everything figured out.

Maybe He's waiting for you to surrender the timeline.

To stop looking sideways.

To stop asking why your story doesn't look like someone else's.

To stop believing that being delayed means being forgotten.

Maybe He's waiting for you to trust Him even when you don't understand.

Because sometimes the biggest step of faith isn't moving forward.

Sometimes it's standing still and saying,

“God, I don't understand what You're doing, but I trust You.”

You don't have to understand the season you're in to trust the One who placed you there.

So, if you're looking around at everyone else and wondering why you aren't further along by now, take a breath.

Your story isn't over.

You're not forgotten.

You're not disqualified.

You're not behind.

You're still becoming.

And maybe, just maybe, this season isn't about God getting you to where you're going.

Maybe it's about preparing you for who you're becoming when you get there.

Keep going.

Keep praying.

Keep trusting.

And most importantly, keep becoming the person God created you to be.

Your timeline doesn't have to look like theirs.

It only has to be yours.
